Viral video clips seemed to capture Jones flashing his middle finger at Jets fans, though he maintains he was actually signaling approval to Dallas supporters in attendance as his team clinched a 37-22 victory.
“That was regrettable. It was essentially an interaction with Cowboys supporters out in front of us,” Jones explained during a radio appearance. “There was a large group of Cowboys fans—not Jets fans, Cowboys fans. The whole venue was filled with excitement for the Dallas team.”
Jones additionally clarified that the gesture was entirely unintentional, occurring amid the excitement following the team’s last score. “I just showed the incorrect digit,” he noted. “It was accidentally performed. I’m not kidding. If you want to call it accidental, you can. However, it got resolved rapidly.”
