One Greater Manchester team boasts an non-professional vets squad with nine ex- Premier League players in their present squad.

Two Hundred Twenty-Two Premier League Scores, 325 Global Appearances

The team Vets Over-35s are located in southern Manchester and play in the Cheshire Vets League Premier Division.

"That's a bit different but then, I enjoy sprinting and just move forward - I'm not defending that much," he added.

"I warn my defender 'I'm not staying' and that I'm just going to continue attacking.

"The movement is what I'm after. It's enjoyable."

Along with the forward's 6 scores on debut, Ireland has netted 8 in 3 appearances for the side, while George Boyd scored five on his first match and Lescott, a centre-half by position, scored a hat-trick in one match as a striker.

"I think I was a bit awestruck playing against Figueroa to be honest.

"We held our own for a good 20 mins but then we had a player sent off and it was hard.

"We really have not ceased talking about it - I was phoning my mum and sibling on the journey home.

"The opponents were all dead sound, shaking our hands after the match - it was like facing a group of normal guys.

"Now we can't wait for the return fixture."
