Approximately twenty-five thousand residences in south-east Queensland woke up lacking electricity on the start of the week after severe thunderstorms swept through the area, bringing powerful gusts hitting over 100 km/h.
Large Ice Stones and Widespread Destruction
Homeowners reported substantial frozen pellets reaching sizes of 7cm in some areas. The Bureau of Meteorology announced that various areas across Queensland had been hit with significant hail.

Utility workers were focused on reestablishing energy supply throughout the affected regions, with dozens of response units working to address the numerous electricity disruptions.
Victorian Storm Challenges
At the same time, nearly 1,000 residents in Victoria also encountered electricity disruptions after the metropolitan area saw its most precipitation in a year and a half.
Emergency response teams handled 598 emergency reports across the state, primarily for structural issues but also for collapsed vegetation and flooding.

Meteorological Predictions
Humid circumstances were predicted to continue along large portions of eastern Queensland this week as a low-pressure trough continued to draw in moisture against the coastal areas.
The following day was predicted as the most rainy day, with persistent severe weather risk predicted across multiple regions of both states.
Safety Concern
Medical authorities cautioned that there was an increased chance of thunderstorm-induced asthma across the northern rural areas, particularly given the existing atmospheric conditions.
This warning comes after historical occurrences where analogous circumstances led to substantial respiratory problems in the area.
